Telehandler Safety Warnings and Operator Requirements

This section explains Telescro telehandler safety warnings, operator authorization rules, inspection duties, tire requirements, and prohibited machine modifications.

2.1 Safety Warning Notice

When the following safety warning symbol appears in this manual, it indicates that the content is directly related to personal safety, equipment protection, or operating risk:

Warning! Caution! This operation may endanger personnel or equipment safety.

When using, inspecting, maintaining, or repairing a Telescro telehandler, all safety requirements and operating instructions in this manual must be followed without exception.
Ignoring safety warnings, violating operating procedures, or modifying the machine without authorization may result in equipment damage, personal injury, or even serious or fatal accidents.

Basic Principles

  • Perform only the operations that are explicitly permitted in this manual.
  • Any operation that is not clearly permitted must be assessed for risk before it is carried out.
  • Operators must always make active judgments about the work environment, machine condition, and the people around the equipment.
  • If the safety of an operation cannot be confirmed, stop immediately and seek technical support.

2.2 Operator’s Manual Requirements

Operators must read and understand this manual in full before using the machine.

Requirements

  • The operator’s manual must always be kept in the designated storage location on the machine.
  • The manual must be available in a language that the operator can understand.
  • Before using the machine for the first time, the operator must be familiar with:
    • the location and function of all controls;
    • the meaning of indicators and alarm systems;
    • load limits and stability requirements;
    • safe operating procedures;
    • emergency shutdown and abnormal condition handling methods.

Document and Label Control

The following conditions must be corrected immediately:

  • the operator’s manual is missing;
  • safety labels are blurred, detached, or damaged;
  • nameplate information cannot be identified;
  • load charts or operating instruction labels are unclear.

If critical safety markings are missing or cannot be identified, the machine must not remain in service.

2.3 Authorization Requirements

A Telescro telehandler may only be operated by personnel who have been trained, are qualified, and have received formal authorization.

Operator Qualifications

  • The operator has completed safety training for telehandlers or comparable equipment.
  • The operator understands the control logic and operating limits of this model.
  • The operator is familiar with the machine’s load capacity, attachment limits, and site risks.
  • The operator has written or procedural authorization from the employer or equipment manager.
  • Where required by applicable regulations, the operator can present the relevant proof of qualification.

Prohibited Actions

  • Allowing unauthorized personnel to operate the machine.
  • Handing the machine over to another person without approval.
  • Using the machine temporarily, recreationally, for test-driving, or for non-work purposes.
  • Operating the machine without understanding its performance characteristics and jobsite requirements.

2.4 Reporting Abnormal Conditions

If the machine shows abnormal operation, control failure, alarms, unusual noise, leakage, or any other unsafe condition, the operator must stop using it immediately and report the issue.

Conditions That Must Be Reported Immediately

  • abnormal engine, hydraulic, steering, or braking performance;
  • warning indicators or fault codes on the display;
  • abnormal telescopic boom movement;
  • tire damage, severe wear, or abnormal deformation;
  • failure of a safety device;
  • cracks, looseness, or abnormal vibration in structural components.

Principle

Any machine defect that can "still barely work" must never be treated as a reason to continue operation.

Machine abnormalities must be inspected and handled by qualified technical personnel.

2.5 Operator Maintenance Responsibilities

Except for the daily inspections and basic maintenance work that are explicitly permitted in this manual, operators must not disassemble, repair, adjust, or modify the machine on their own, unless they have received appropriate professional training and have been authorized to perform that work.

Operators Are Normally Responsible For

  • daily visual inspections;
  • cleaning key machine areas;
  • checking basic items such as fluid levels, tires, lights, and alarm devices;
  • performing routine daily inspection tasks within the prescribed scope;
  • recording abnormal conditions and reporting them as required.

Operators Must Not Handle These Items Themselves

  • hydraulic system repairs;
  • electrical system repairs;
  • brake system adjustments;
  • steering system repairs;
  • engine parameter adjustments;
  • removal of safety devices or bypassing of safety functions.

2.6 Daily Inspection Requirements

Operators must carry out a basic safety inspection before starting the machine each day or at the beginning of each work shift.

Typical Inspection Items

  • whether the machine shows any obvious external damage;
  • whether the tires show bulges, cracks, abnormal wear, or abnormal pressure;
  • whether there are signs of oil leakage, fluid leakage, looseness, fracture, or unusual noise;
  • whether lights, the horn, and the reverse alarm are operating correctly;
  • whether indicators, displays, and alarm systems are functioning normally;
  • whether the telescopic boom, attachments, quick coupler, and locking mechanisms are operating normally;
  • whether the cab, seat, seat belt, and rear visibility devices are in good condition.

If any abnormality is found, the machine must remain out of service until normal condition has been restored.

2.7 Tire Use Requirements

Tire condition directly affects machine stability, traction, braking performance, and overall operating safety.

Operators Must Confirm

  • the tire type is suitable for the current ground conditions and operating environment;
  • the left and right tires are of the same specification;
  • tire pressure meets the requirement, where pneumatic tires are used;
  • the tires do not have severe cuts, cracks, separation, bulges, or abnormal wear;
  • the tread pattern provides sufficient traction for the working conditions.

Examples of Tires or Accessories for Different Conditions

  • sand tires;
  • general construction site tires;
  • agricultural terrain tires;
  • snow chains, where applicable.

Prohibited Actions

  • continuing operation with severely worn, damaged, or improperly inflated tires;
  • using an unapproved tire configuration;
  • using tire modification solutions that have not been approved by the manufacturer.

Notice: abnormal tire condition directly increases the risk of rollover, brake failure, and the machine becoming stuck.

2.8 Unauthorized Machine Modifications Are Prohibited

Without written approval from Telescro or an authorized technical department, no modification may be made that affects machine performance, stability, safety, or regulatory compliance.

Unauthorized Modifications Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • hydraulic system parameters;
  • load limits and safety protection logic;
  • engine speed and power output parameters;
  • electrical system control logic;
  • warning lights, buzzers, and safety switches;
  • counterweight structure;
  • unapproved attachments;
  • quick coupler or connection structures;
  • additional structural components fitted to the machine.

Risk Statement

Unauthorized modifications may lead to:

  • reduced stability;
  • invalid rated load limits;
  • failure of safety systems;
  • structural damage;
  • significantly increased accident risk;
  • loss of legal or certification compliance;
  • loss of manufacturer responsibility and warranty coverage.

2.9 Requirements for Personnel Lifting Operations

A Telescro telehandler must not be used to lift personnel with standard attachments.

Basic Principle

Standard telehandler attachments such as forks, buckets, and lifting points are intended for material handling only and must never be used for lifting people.

Personnel Lifting Is Permitted Only When All of the Following Conditions Are Met

  • local regulations expressly allow the operation;
  • an approved dedicated personnel work platform is used;
  • the platform is compatible with the machine;
  • the platform is installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements;
  • complete fall protection measures and site isolation measures are in place;
  • reliable communication is maintained between the operator and the personnel on the platform;
  • a task-specific risk assessment has been completed.

Prohibited Actions

  • lifting people with forks, pallets, buckets, lifting devices, or any attachment that is not a personnel platform;
  • allowing people to stand on forks, pallets, or attachments for elevated work;
  • carrying out any lifting of personnel without a dedicated work platform installed;
  • performing personnel lifting on uneven ground, in excessive wind, or where visibility is restricted.

Recommended Telescro Standard Statement

If personnel lifting is required, a Telescro-approved dedicated personnel work platform must be used, and all applicable machine safety requirements and local regulations must be followed.
