SE Asia Used Construction Equipment Market to Reach $2.39B by 2030

August 19, 2026 3 months ago

Arizton estimates that Southeast Asia’s used construction equipment market was worth $1.83 billion in 2024 and projects it to reach $2.39 billion by 2030, a value CAGR of 4.54%.

That is a forecast for the broad used construction equipment market. It is not a $2.39 billion forecast for used telehandlers.

## What the market figure includes

The report covers earthmoving equipment, road-construction equipment and material-handling equipment. Within material handling it groups cranes, forklifts and telescopic handlers, plus aerial platforms. It does not publish a separate telehandler market value on the public report page.

Arizton identifies Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and the rest of Southeast Asia as the geographic scope. It attributes growth to infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, logistics and cross-border used-equipment trade.

The report also says used earthmoving equipment held the largest share in 2024. Telehandlers are therefore relevant to the material-handling segment, but they should not be used to label the total market.

## What the report says about Chinese equipment

Arizton describes increasing imports of used Chinese construction equipment and says used Chinese brands are entering the second-hand market at lower price points than comparable Japanese or European machines.

That finding is about used equipment. It does not establish that a new China-direct telehandler has reached price parity with a five-year-old Japanese telehandler. A new-versus-used comparison needs named models, current quotations and destination-specific import costs.

## Do not use a generic TCO table

The public sources do not support a universal set of landed prices, hour counts, first-year maintenance costs, five-year resale percentages or a 1,200-hour break-even threshold for telehandlers across Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Those inputs vary by model, age, load history, attachments, service records, local parts supply, emissions rules, import restrictions, finance and resale channel. A table without traceable model-level evidence can make a used machine look cheaper or a new machine look safer before either has been inspected.

## A defensible used-versus-new comparison

For the used machine, obtain:

– serial number and manufacturing year;
– verified operating hours and ownership history;
– service records and fault-code download;
– boom, chassis, axle and hydraulic inspection;
– attachment condition and load-chart match;
– tyre condition, parts availability and repair estimate;
– destination import eligibility and a written landed quote.

For the new machine, obtain:

– exact factory and model identity;
– approved load charts and configuration;
– warranty terms and exclusions;
– commissioning and training scope;
– a priced initial spare-parts kit;
– local or regional diagnostic support;
– the same delivered-cost boundary used for the used offer.

Then model cost per productive hour using the buyer’s own utilization and downtime assumptions. Low annual use may favour a lower-capital used unit if condition and parts are controlled. High utilization may justify new equipment, but that conclusion must come from the two exact machines—not the regional market CAGR.

## Country rules still matter

Arizton notes that used-equipment import rules differ across the region and cites tighter licensing, verification and age requirements in several markets. Buyers should confirm current national rules with the importer and customs adviser before paying a deposit.

The $2.39 billion forecast shows an expanding regional second-hand market. For a telehandler buyer, it is a demand context and sourcing signal—not a substitute for inspection, classification and a model-specific total-cost comparison.
